With companies cutting resources, most of us are forced to do more with less. One of the little tricks I've learned is to take my computer with me to meetings and take notes on my computer so I don't need to waste time transposing them onto my computer.
Better yet, take your notes in an email so you can just forward those notes to your meeting attendees with a list of next steps. This way you and your co-workers aren't wasting time in yet another un-productive meeting.
