WORKADAY TIP #152: Another Use For Rubberbands

So I've used this tip in my past two home and it works like a charm!

I hate having bottles on the floor of my shower.  As a result, I always organize them in a shower caddy that hangs from the shower head.  The problem?

I have yet to find a shower caddy that doesn't periodically slide off the shower head.  This being the last thing I want to deal with when it's 6am and I have yet to have any coffee. It's not a good way to start your day... 

So the way to avoid this is to put a rubberband around the shower head below the shower caddy hanger. It will keep it in place and keep you from cursing - well at least not until you head out for your morning commute!

WORKADAY TIP #151: 100 Calorie Packs

So first my apologies for not posting recently, I just started a new job which means I've had to adjust my schedules a bit.  The good news is that with the new job has come new inspiration for my Workaday Superstar blog! 

I now have a bit of a commute so I've had to learn how to plan for an hour in the car to and from work.  Here is the first in a series of tips for how to live through and leverage your time in the car.

Before I started my job I made a trip to Costco and stocked up on some healthy snacks.  I picked up breakfast bars, cherrios, turkey jerky, popcorn and almonds.  I then proceeded to put them in my own 100 calorie ziplock packs.  I've got them stashed in my car, in my file cabinet at work and in my kitchen drawer.  Now, when ever I need a snack, I can make a healthy choice.  The added benefits?  I am saving money by buying in bulk, saving the earth my packing my own 100 calorie packs and saving time my not needing make a pit stop to pick up a munchie. 

Hooray for efficiency!

WORKADAY TIP #150: Whiten Yellow Nails

I generally don't paint my finger nails because the polish chips off way too quickly.  As a result, I like to make sure that my nails are well groomed.  I recently found these tips for how to whiten yellow nails from Maire Claire

"Several tricks can be used to make your tips look whiter. Nail expert Fran Manos (author of Beautiful Hands and Nails Naturally) recommends bleaching them in a solution of 1 tablespoon of 3% hydrogen peroxide mixed with 2 1/2 tablespoons of baking soda in a small plastic bowl. Use a cotton swab to press some of the mixture (it should achieve a paste-like consistency) firmly under the tip of each nail as well as over the top of the nail, covering all the nails on one hand. Allow the mixture to remain in place for about three minutes before rinsing with warm water. Repeat with other hand. Try this treatment every six to eight weeks. Or, soak your tips in a commercial denture cleaner for about five minutes. For a super-speedy fix, use a nail-whitening pencil (available at drugstores) under your tips for a brighter look."

I am personally gonna try the denture cream.  I read this a few other places so I think that has the best odds of success.  I'll let you know how it works out.

Also, if anyone knows how to keep polish on your nails from chipping, I'd love to know!

WORKADAY TIP #148: Keep Hands Looking Young

I read this tip in a magazine last week and I swear I am already seeing a difference!

As part of your night regime, take your facial serum and apply it to the tops of your hands.  Facial serums can give you added moisture and nutrients to deeper layers of your skin.  As you get older, you've likely noticed that your hands are much dryer and more wrinkled then they used to be.  A facial serum's attributes can work just as effectively on your hands as they do your face. 

I believe serums should be used in addition to your moisturizer so this doesn't replace hand lotion, just an additional TLC for your hands before you go to bed at night.

You may recall my Workaday Tip #86 titled Renew at Night, this tip would be a great one to add to that evening regime!

WORKADAY TIP #147: Rinse Hair With Cold Water

I have seen great benefits from this tip.  When you are finishing your shower, turn the facet to cold for just a minute and rinse your hair.  Rinsing with cold water gives you shiny hair.  Here is why:

Thirty seconds under cold running water will help seal the cuticles on the hair shaft, trapping moisture in the hair and creating that beautiful hair commercial shine. Your hair will instantly feel softer and silkier.  See complete article here.

Also, the cold air button on your dryer has a similiar benefit.  I always finish drying my hair with cold air.  It seems to do the trick!
